The sinusoidal magnetic chuck, tilting on both sides, of the TSD series is designed for the clamping of ferromagnetic workpieces (iron, structural steel, alloy steel, cast iron) during grinding, milling and electrical discharge machining in a horizontal position as well as in an angular position in two axes, longitudinal D1 to 45° and transverse D2 to 35°. The table body is made of a solid block of steel, while its top plate is made of steel and brass fins arranged in alternating widths (1.5 + 0.5 mm). The steel base ensures high rigidity and therefore grinding accuracy. The TSD series tables use neodymium magnets so that maximum clamping force is achieved.

Below is the general appearance of the double-sided tilting table (TSD1710A)

Setting the table at the desired angle is done by placing gauge blocks between the base of the table and the support shaft of the table (their height is selected according to the table included in the instructions). Another method of setting the desired angle is by using a precision protractor.
The rigid construction of the table allows very precise machining, and its tightness allows the table to be used with coolant or fully submerged. To facilitate the clamping of workpieces at an angle, the table has a stop and clamping bar to aid positioning.

The pole pitch (1.5 ± 0.5 mm) allows holding workpieces of different sizes. Pole pitch diagram:

The clamping force depends on the following parameters:

  • type of material:
(the clamping force increases proportionally to the content of iron in steel)

    - Armco iron                     100%
    - low-carbon steel             90% (St3s)
    - high-carbon steel            80% (St45)
    - alloy steel                      70% (Corrax)
    - high-alloy steel               65% (1.2436)
    - cast iron                         50%

  • roughness of the surface of the chuck and the workpiece clamped:

    - for Ra up to 0.08 µm         100%
    - for Ra up to 0.20 µm         90%
    - for Ra up to 1.25 µm         70%
    - for Ra up to 6.30 µm         50%
    - for Ra up to 25.00 µm       30%

  • thickness of the workpiece clamped (the tests were carried out for plates with the size of 20 x 20 mm made of Armco iron):

  • contact surface:
    - for a good hold, the workpieces must not be shorter than 3 mm and, additionally, in the case of small areas, they must be supported by auxiliary plates. The maximum clamping force per cm2 is achieved for workpieces with a surface area of approx. 4 cm2. A further increase in workpiece surface area does not result in an increase in clamping force. Parallelism between the table and the workpiece is also important, as even the smallest irregularity decreases the clamping force. The table design allows the work surface to be regrinded to a thickness of up to 5 mm.
